Frequently Asked Questions About Preserved and Smoked Products

How should smoked products and canned goods be stored?

Smoked products must always be kept in the refrigerator.
For canned goods, we differentiate between:

  • Canned preserves: treated with heat and have a long shelf life (at least 2 years); no refrigeration is needed if unopened.

  • Semi-preserved products: usually require refrigeration and have a shorter shelf life of a few months.

In our store, you’ll find bonito del norte as a preserve, and Cantabrian anchovies as a semi-preserved product.

How long do they last once opened?

Once opened, canned goods, semi-preserved items, and smoked products should be consumed within 3–4 days and always stored in the fridge.

Can smoked products be frozen?

Yes, smoked products can be frozen as long as they are vacuum sealed or well wrapped in cling film to prevent freezer burn.
